a series of 4 squares of textured card, all featuring a different question that was hand transferred using acetate. attached to each question was a piece of charcoal, when posted the movements of the postal service cause the charcoal to answer yes or no to the question.

This is my final piece that i submitted for my self negotiated brief. I wrote myself a brief to produce a fully working smartphone app. Originally i didnt know how hard it actually is to do! After a lot of hard work and research into java coding i managed to put together this very simple but very much working currency converter app.

3D Testing on Youtube

Uploaded a short clip from part of my title sequence to YouTube using the yt3d:enable=true tag coding. I exported two versions of the clip, one normal and one with the camera offset to the right slightly. Then placed them together and re-exported it as a single file with the clips side by side. Ive not managed to get hold of a pair of anaglyph glasses to view it. Tried it using the cross eyed method and i can see it fine but just doesn't look any more 3d than the original?

Ive now developed the original Hello World app into a working currency converter. just by creating these simple apps im gaining a lot of knowledge about java developing, hopefully not too far from a more in depth app. Its surprisingly hard to even create a very basic application using the java coding.

Final Title Sequence

My final title sequence created for a uni project. We were asked to choose a film and re-create the title sequence for it, hopefully impoving on the original.

I chose the film Session 9, based around an asbestos removal crew who are employed to remove the asbestos from an old abandoned metal hospital.

I used Nocton RAF hospital in Lincolnshire as my shooting location, where i shot some gorgeous HDR images.
These were then cut up and projected onto 3dimensional planes in After Effects, allowing me to move the virtual camera however and wherever i liked (within reason!).

I also used my Animated Alphabet typography for the text featured in the sequence which i created using spinning coins.

This is my first concept. I chose the location i want to shoot for the final piece and took some shots for ideas. Using the photos i pieced this together to see if it worked well, and to give an overall impression of what the final piece will look like.

I will be going back to the filming location later this week to get the footage i need to the title sequence.

3Cubed

The 3Cubed brief was to investigate a confined space of about 3m x 3m x3m and portray your investigation as a creative response. I chose to create an audio representation of a my view when stood in one place. I took a series of 11 360 degree panoramic photographs in various different locations, from beaches, cities and completely flat countryside. I then took the average colours from the images and converted the R, G and B values into audio.

Animated Alphabet

For the animated alphabet brief, we were asked to invent, film and animate a animated alphabet. It had to be completely original and hand rendered. After effects or similar software could only be used to edit the footage and merge it together.

I used coins to create my alphabet, covering them in tipex and hand writing each letter onto both sides. The choice of tipex was due to a series of tests i did beforehand, showing that things such as paint, vinyl or spray paint reduce the coins spinning time in half, whereas tipex only slowed the coins by 0.04 of a second on average.

I used 1p coins for small letters, 2p coins for caps and 5p coins for punctuation and numbers.

We also had to create a sound for the animation, for which i recorded the coins sliding down a piece of cardboard. I sped the recording up by 2000x and reversed it to give the odd fluttery effect.

West Lindsey District Council Advertised for a graphic designer to put together some ideas for window stickers to be displayed in participating cafe's showing that they are breastfeeding friendly. this is a new campaign to try and encourage more mothers to breastfeed, as most feel uncomfortable doing it in public.

Vicki Slinger from WLDC responded to me quickly informing me that my designs hadn't been chosen, however they were very interested and will be in contact in the future.

A to B Navigation

Create a sign posting system that successfully navigates from A to B. Traditional means are signposts, sat nav's or maps. The idea of this brief was to invent a new and interesting, yet functional method of getting a person

from point A to point B.

I developed a handheld unit, that could be given to a person within a large or complicated building such as a hospital. The idea would be to replace the coloured line system that you see featured in hospitals. The user would find the first unit next to reception where the unit is given, and from there they could get from point A to point B, or C or D or as many as required. the wall mounted units display each destination and will be found in specific locations around the building. This means a user can go from any point in the building to any other point in the building easily.

EyelashesDirect.co.uk Photoshoot

I was approached by the online company Eyelashesdirect.com who asked me to take a series of photos of some models wearing their eyelashes for some large backdrops to be used on their stand at the International Clothes Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Since then they have asked me to take individual product shots for their catalogue and currently i am working with them to design a set of new boxes and shots of their new stands that will be distributed to shops for sales over the counter.

Interactive GUI (Graphic User Interface)

I worked on this project with a partner (Sam Redgrift). We filmed myself carrying out actions that we had thought of for our final piece on greenscreen. The first footage we shot was particularly bad quality due to the camera, the second also struggled with quality until final we re-filmed it all using a HD camera. Using After Effects we removed the green and then placed the clips into Flash. Using a lot of coding we worked out to make certain keypresses trigger different clips.
The idea behind our project was to create a downloadable interactive computer wallpaper that when set as the wallpaper, the character will interact with button presses or key presses as the computer is used.

Joint Year Project - Zines

Beginning this new year we were given a project working in teams of 4, two second years and two first years. We were asked to design and produce a magazine based around to word 'active'. It could be about anything, look how we wanted it and use any production methods possible, but it must relate to the word 'active'. By the deadline we must have handed in 50 copies of our magazine.

In our group we decided to use 'active news'. We came up with the concept to use newspaper headlines and images and create a small weekly newspaper that could be picked up and read quickly without having any full stories, just giving an overview of the news from the previous week. We wanted to put it together imaginatively and creativly otherwise the content would have been boring.
To produce our final Zine, we cut up the headlines and simply stuck them with sticky tape onto pieces of a4 paper, creating one rough magazine first. Then we photocopied this master copy onto newsprint paper 50 times. The newsprint gave us so many problems when it came to photocopying, however we managed to work around it and handed in all 50 copies, sealed using plastic heat sealed bags.

Excess Brief

We were asked to focus on the word excess, and portray it however we saw fit. I decided to look at the obvious, but go slightly more indepth. I took crisps, fizzy drinks, chocolate, beer, cigarettes and macdonalds and created a series of posters informing what the damages of these products are. I changed the product logos, type and imagery to suit the possible outcomes of excess indulgence of them.
